Putting People First
in a Digital World

How we started practical transformational coaching and training that
unlocks efficiencies, skills, creativity, and confidence.

How it started

Our founder Sam Parnell began her digital career in the early 2000s, at a time when the internet was fundamentally reshaping how people work, learn, and do business.

As the founder of Measured Brilliance, Sam spent years working across multiple sectors, supporting organisations through periods of change and helping them make sense of evolving technology.

Her background spans digital strategy, transformation, and technical sales, with hands-on experience across a wide range of technologies, from aerospace-grade materials and RFID systems to stock tracking solutions and modern point-of-sale platforms.

This breadth of experience gave Sam a deep understanding of how complex systems fit together, and, just as importantly, how to translate that complexity into practical, real-world value.

Throughout her work, she repeatedly saw the same challenge. Technology was rarely the real problem. Confidence, clarity, and decision-making were. When people felt supported and understood what they were working with, progress followed. When they did not, even the best tools failed to deliver.

Over time, these experiences shaped Sam’s belief that effective transformation must be grounded in clarity, empathy, and evidence, not trends or assumptions.

That belief became the foundation of Human First Digital.

Learning From What Already Exists

Sam also noticed a costly and familiar pattern.

Organisations would regularly wipe the slate clean and start again, losing momentum, money, and confidence in the process. Valuable context was discarded, and the same mistakes were often repeated.

Rather than scrapping what is already there, Sam focuses on helping organisations understand it. That includes systems, processes, decisions, and even past failures, which often hold the most useful insight.

By supporting teams to explore what went wrong and why, Sam helps them make better decisions moving forward. Not just decisions that go right, but decisions that are more informed, resilient, and appropriate for their context.

Using a data-driven, evidence-based approach, she works with leaders, managers, and coaches to build clarity, confidence, and capability, reducing costly missteps and strengthening long-term strategy.

Today, Sam brings together practical experience, structured thinking, and coaching to help organisations view challenges differently, solve problems more effectively, and plan for the future with confidence.

Community-Led Transformation

Sam has spent much of her career working at the intersection of business, technology, and community. Alongside her commercial work, she has led and supported multiple large-scale, community-led initiatives designed to strengthen local economies, support small and medium-sized businesses, and improve access to practical digital advice.

Over two distinct phases of ecosystem building, Sam helped bring together businesses, educators, public bodies, and independent experts to address a recurring problem.

Many organisations needed digital support, but did not know who to trust, what to ask for, or how to navigate an increasingly complex landscape of tools, platforms, and advice.

Sam is working with experts to create the third iteration, a regional ecosystem. To find out more visit www.empowerus.org.uk.
